Co-Founder / Managing Director
Dave Leyrer is a Co-Founder and Managing Director at 3L Capital and is responsible for the firm's investments in goPuff, SnackNation, and goEuro.
Dave has been investing in technology and internet businesses since 1995, when he and two colleagues left Salomon Brothers in NYC to move to San Francisco to start Nexus Group LLC. Nexus began as a technology-focused hedge fund and quickly expanded into venture capital, first through a “crossover” strategy and then via dedicated venture capital vehicles. He ran Nexus Group from inception until 2007 from San Francisco and Menlo Park.
In 2008, Dave co-founded Boulevard Capital Management, a consumer-focused hedge fund based in Los Angeles where he was involved primarily in sourcing private opportunities for the fund. Notable private companies in which Boulevard invested are Facebook, AirBnB and Pinterest. Dave also was the seed investor and active board member at Citymaps Inc. (sold to TripAdvisor) and Omaze where he currently serves as the Chairman.
In 2013, Dave founded The Safe and Fair Food Company, a venture-backed (Acre Ventures, the venture capital arm of the Campbell’s Soup Company) startup in the CPG and ecommerce space. Two of Dave’s three children suffer from food allergies and S+F creates great-tasting, allergen-safe snack foods that are widely available at accessible price points. S+F products, under a myriad of brands, are served in thousands of public and private schools as everyday menu items and S+F is a vital part of the food allergy community. The company has an extensive partnership with Stanford University and donates 3% of net proceeds to The Sean N. Parker Center for Asthma and Allergy Research. The company recently sold a minority stake to Schwann’s, a $3B+ revenue food services leader.
Since 2014, Dave has served as a venture partner at Firstmark Capital, an NYC-based venture capital firm focused on seed and Series A investments. Dave performs sourcing, diligence and board functions on behalf of investments he shares in-common with Firstmark including AirBnB, HopSkipDrive and Omaze, among others.
Dave lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Alicia Tranen, and their three children. He’s a Board Member of The Nantucket Project and CoachArt and a mentor at AmplifyLA.
